New Release & Video: Rachel Sermanni – What Can I Do / So It Turns

Scottish folk-noir artist Rachel Sermanni has unveiled the video for ‘What Can I Do’, the lead single from her recently-announced third full-length record, So It Turns – the follow-up to 2015’s Tied To The Moon

Dealing in an abrasive, goth-tinged sound that falls somewhere between PJ Harvey and Cat Power, the track – now with an appropriately unsettling and surreal video – is an amped-up call to arms inspired by the sense of hopelessness that Trump, Brexit and the refugee crisis brought about in Rachel

In line with this desire for action that sits at heart of ‘What Can I Do’, she will be donating a % of the proceeds from the single to Extinction Rebellion

Take a listen and a watch below…

New album So It Turns is due to be self-released on August 23rd; Rachel deciding to journey down the DIY route on this record, following previous releases via Rough Trade Records among other indie imprints

Where 2015’s Tied To The Moon saw her add rockier, almost-grungy elements into her otherworldly sound, So It Turns sees her take that even further and journey into more left-field waters

In Autumn, Rachel will be touring the record around the UK & Ireland, including a stop at London’s St Pancras Church (Oct 10th) which follows a recent performance with London Contemporary Voices alongside Daughter’s Elena Tonra and others at the Southbank Centre
