New Release & Video: Leif Vollebekk – Apalachee Plain

Leif Vollebekk wrote his new song ‘Apalachee Plain’ in one sitting, but it took many different forms until he nailed the perfect feel – a shimmering country song in 6/8 – and the closing track from his latest album, New Ways, now has a video, which can be viewed below…

The video captures Leif amongst the backdrop of a sprawling black & white (and very rainy) Icelandic landscape. In contrast, the track itself was recorded at Capitol Studios in Hollywood and includes vocals from Australian singer-songwriter Angie McMahon alongside legendary pedal steel played Cindy Cashdollar.

“A few years ago I was driving through the painted desert and saw a lone mustang running alongside the road. He looked so free. And he seemed to know everything. That image came back to me when I wrote it,” says Leif of the track.

“I wanted to create a photographic video for this track which used mixed media, Icelandic landscapes and portrait photography to give an other-worldy vibe to the track, putting Leif and his voice at the centre of the visuals,” video director Joe Connor explains.

Leif has had a big year on the heels of New Ways. In the past month alone he’s sold out his biggest ever US shows in NYC (Bowery Ballroom) and Los Angeles (Troubadour) during a sold out US run that continues through this week, which will then lead into another Australian tour – Leif first toured the country with ‘Apalachee Plain’ guest vocalist Angie McMahon in 2019.

Leif Vollebekk will then arrive in Europe and the UK for run of dates in April & May which will include two shows at London’s Bush Hall…

Apr 27 – London, Bush Hall
Apr 28 – London, Bush Hall
Apr 29 – Bristol, Exchange
Apr 30 – Manchester, Soup Kitchen
May 1 – Glasgow, Poetry Club
May 2 – Dublin, Soundhouse
