Diana DeMuth has shared her new single, “Rose of Nantucket,” and announced three tour dates with The Lumineers. The new single is taken from the Simone Felice-produced debut album, out later this year.
The powerful, black and white video that accompanies the track really completes the message that the song gives in such a personal and yet universal way. Describing how that works, DeMuth says: “I feel Rose Of Nantucket touches on the human experience of being alone and how powerful it is when we’re able to connect with another person. The video is shot in black and white which to me feels representative of the timeless message of the lyric. The living portraits we incorporated are a big part of what brings this song to life. Each portrait has a loneliness to it but when strung together there’s also a feeling of camaraderie and a reminder that we’re not really ever truly alone, which is exactly what Rose Of Nantucket is about.”
The video’s director, Nicholas Sutton Bell, expands on this saying: “Diana DeMuth’s Rose of Nantucket is such a powerful song. Once we settled on the concept of roses being everyday people, it was only a question of where to find them. For that, we choose Vegas. Not just the typical Vegas with it’s bright lights and big money, but off-the-strip Vegas, where tourists don’t typically go.
Every city has it dark corners, and more often than not they hold the brightest lights. You just have to be willing to look. Shooting this video in Vegas was an emotional experience. We wanted to find real people from all walks of life and show that we are all human, lost, flawed and beautiful. The reactions of joy people showed us when asked to be on camera is something I will carry with me till the day I die. Each one of us is a petal. Together we can be a beautiful rose.”
