Taken from the forthcoming collaboration album Fragments, between Ivor Novello nominated Bear’s Den and go-to arranger Paul Frith (Radiohead, The xx, Bear’s Den), ‘When You Break’ has been completely re-imagined by the British composer, through a contemporary classical lens, whilst new track ‘Fireworks Flashing’ sees Frith go one step further, and create an entirely new piece of music out of threads of the fan favourite track ‘Think of England’. The album, to be released on September 18th, is set to include 3 other brand new contemporary classical tracks, inspired by Bear’s Den originals.
Bear’s Den Singer Andrew Davie said: “The lyrics in ‘When You Break’ are trying to capture the moment when the facade or veneer we put up to protect ourselves is shattered. Paul’s beautiful arrangement captures that darkness but also the beauty of what can be rebuilt from those moments of reflection.”
Paul Frith said: “Fireworks Flashing is a track I wrote in response to the Bear’s Den track ‘Think of England’. I find that people are often intimidated by the thought of contemporary classical music, so one of the great opportunities with the Fragments interludes was to crack open a door into this world and show that it is open to all.”
This double A-side single release marks the final preview of new material from the forthcoming Fragments album, which was conceived in the wake of a handful of specially commissioned orchestral shows the pair performed in 2018 at EartH in London, Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie, and Utrecht’s Tivoli Vredenburg.
