New Release & Video: Amy Duncan – You Know Me

Amy Duncan has released her new single & video “You Know Me”, the second track to be lifted from the award-winning Scottish folk musician’s new album Cocoon, available November 26 on Filly Records.

For Cocoon, the classically trained Duncan fully embraced electronics, switching from her usual acoustic instruments to synths, electric guitar and electric upright bass. The result is a spectral new sound with space for her high, hypnotic vocals to swim over minimal soundscapes and percussion, perfectly realised in the exquisite “You Know Me”.

“You Know Me is about remembering the close friendships from the past which have been lost through the twists and turns of life,” comments Duncan of the track. “The nostalgia for those days and knowing I can never go back.”

Cocoon was mixed and mastered by Cameron Malcolm. Duncan’s previous three albums were produced by Cameron’s dad, Calum Malcolm (The Blue Nile, Prefab Sprout). Multi-instrumentalist Duncan plays keys, synths, electric guitar and electric upright bass, while her son Finn contributes acoustic guitar and her long-time friend and former bandmate Guy Nicolson adds percussion and tablas.

Fifteen years into her career, Cocoon marks a new start for Edinburgh-based Duncan. “I’m not sure why, but I’ve always kept myself quite hidden,” she admits. “Making music is easy for me, promoting it is the hard part. Ironically, 2020 was due to be the year that I put myself out there. I got a live agent for the first time and had a tour booked.

“The positives from it are that I got to make this album, the tour is re-booked for the spring and I’m no longer nervous about it. Having been stuck at home for so long, I can’t wait to get back on stage. I’m more ready for it than I’ve ever been.”

Duncan will launch Cocoon with a very special show at The Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh on November 21, which will also be livestreamed…
