The Low Anthem have announced a special 10-Year Anniversary vinyl reissue of their breakout second LP, Oh My God, Charlie Darwin, with original track-sequencing and original audio masters.
It’s been a decade since Rhode Island’s The Low Anthem released Oh My God, Charlie Darwin. The album trawled a sombre and indelible beauty from America’s troubled waters, and struck a deep chord with listeners. The band’s 2008 self-released version of the disc spread like wildfire via word-of-mouth audience response, eventually attracting the attention of Nonesuch Records and Bella Union. Oh My God, Charlie Darwin was licensed, remastered, reissued and travelled the globe, sweeping the DIY-minded Low Anthem along with it; from the ragtag house-show-hopping, MySpace-friending, bar-gigging circuits, to the venerated stages of Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, Newport Folk Festival, and the BBC.
As The Low Anthem continue to explore new sounds, Joyful Noise Recordings’ reissue of Oh My God, Charlie Darwin celebrates a step along that path. “We’re thinking of the reissue as a bookend,” Miller reflected. “It’s been ten years. Our sounds have changed. The people have changed. The people who haven’t changed have changed. But the Darwin songs have followed us and pushed us along for better and worse. We’re taking a moment to be grateful for that, and to revisit them — to see what’s still there. It also closes a chapter. Maybe this completes an idea. Maybe it clears the slate for the future.”
Limited to a one-time pressing of 1,000 hand-numbered copies on Electric Blue vinyl, the packaging for each record is uniquely hand-made and screen-printed by the band themselves, and also includes a bonus flexi-disc and digital download.
The anniversary release is due November 15th 2019.
