London-based self-taught singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Holt has a passion for creating music that is capable of transporting the listener to another world.
Her lyrics tell non-linear stories focusing on time and reflection. Holt focuses on building deep and sometimes dark cinematic soundscapes, creating music which is ethereal, haunting and emotive.
‘Tower’ is the latest single from Holt’s upcoming EP, following the release of singles ‘Hand in Glove’ and ‘Silo’ earlier in the year. The tracks on the EP including ‘Tower’ work on a base of beautiful cinematic sounds, but with a slight edge, a slight darkness.
Holt’s influences range from the evocative sounds of Bat for Lashes, Bjork, and Enya, to the beats and percussion of Massive Attack and Nils Frahm. Her debut album Reveal was released in November 2017 following the singles ‘Man of Glass’, ‘Fault Lines’ and ‘Lucy’.
Speaking on the release, Holt says: “Tower is an ode to my wonderful dad – tall and eccentric, he has shaped my life with his joy and humour, but has also been a tower of unwavering strength and reliability. He supported me so much when I started writing songs on the piano aged 9 and beyond, so keeping the composition simple, with layered vocals, minimal piano and pared back production, felt apt.”
