Andrea Cormier is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in Halifax, NS, Canada. Her album, Creatures of Illusion, was released independently on May 8th 2020.
Its blend of lush, ethereal vocals, enveloping harmonies and gentle guitar melodies creates a nostalgic and dreamy universe that pierces through the subconscious. The album explores Andrea’s wide span of musical influences, from 60s folk artists like Joni Mitchell, to the intimate, dark sounds of 90s bands like Mazzy Star, to the modern sounds of experimental psych-folk artists like Weyes Blood and Jessica Pratt.
Andrea’s classic folk sensibilities are demonstrated by the inclusion of traditional instruments like the violin, the flute and the tambourine on certain tracks, with an added touch of modernity through the use of ambient synthesizers. The album’s quiet melancholia explores themes of anxiety, imposterism, and societal malaise.
