The wonderful Citadel returns this weekend, with its ‘Ultimate Summer Sunday’ in Victoria Park, London. For one day only, a host of incredible live bands, DJs, speakers and chefs meet on July 16th to bring you what is likely to be the best Sunday of the season!
Music-wise, there’s a plethora of belters taking to the main stage, including a very special headline slot from Foals, preceded by the mighty Bonobo. Our eyes are glancing a little lower down the order though, where we see the exceptional Wild Beasts and what will be a momentous special-guest set from the one and only Laura Marling. Over on the Communion stage, headliner Michael Kiwanuka is sure to close the night with a stunning show, whilst Banfi, Dan Croll and Sylvan Esso will warm the crowd up with style. Other picks include Aldous Harding in the Koppaberg Urban Forest, and Charlie Straw and Jake Isaac on the Clash & Last.FM stage, which will also see the hottest band of the Summer, Ben Howard’s A Blaze Of Feather in the headline slot
In the Arts & Ideas area, punters can seek out a bunch of great names taking part in a special live edition of Sunday Papers, where poets, politicians, writers & rappers will cover travel, news, style, gardening, sport, business, culture & more. UK News will be delivered by comedians Andy Zaltzman, Shappi Khorsandi, Dane Baptiste and Matt Forde, whilst Travel comes from record-breaking adventurer & author Dave Cornthwaite, and Sport coverage from world record holder Amy Hughes. In this area, festival-goers will also have the chance to get hands on, with chemistry, crafts and cakes all on offer. Discuss alien life and virtual reality with scientists, take part in some sensory dating, drop and dip some socks with Lizzie King’s wonderfully-titled Get Rich Or Tie Dying, pimp a bloomin’ pineapple and take part in the Sounds Familiar music quiz
For those eager beavers who are looking to maintain their fitness, there’s mass-yoga, though you’re more likely to see us in the airstream bar from Sharp’s Brewery or at the Reggae BBQ! And talking of food, my goodness there’s plenty of it, with highly-acclaimed tapas and mezze from Molito, delicious hotdogs and champagne from Bubbledogs, yummy pasta from Ravi Ollie and incredible barbecued lamp from the Lambassadors, plus loads more! All washed down with liquid treats from the Rioja Terrace, Mr Prosecco, or (and) Fever Tree’s Ultimate G&T Bar
Kids are welcome too, and Citadel have arranged plenty for the whole family, including the Big Fish Little Fish family rave, the Hackney Playbus and sports & games in the Arcola Theatre, including space hopper races, sack races, skipping races, pogo stick races, as well as volleyball & swing ball tournaments – lovely stuff!
So Citadwellers (do you see what we did there!?), we hope to see you in the park, beer in hand and swaying to some delightful ditty from Ms. Marling, or getting your groove on with the mighty Foals…and to get you warmed up, here’s our Citadel Playlist!
