As small festivals go, Latitude, End Of The Road and this little gem are by far our favourites!
Often reflected in the lovingly crafted lineups, they bring together a vast array of some of the finest music artists on the globe – and Green Man 2014 in particular has delivered one of the best festival bills of the Summer
Green Man Festival is nestled neatly amongst the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains in Wales, accommodating both young and old, as well as families and festival-goers who don’t fancy the intense crowds of larger events. This refreshingly independent festival is now into its 10th year and has justly received many awards over the years, for its sensational atmosphere, wonderfully diverse lineups and the organic labour of love invested by its organisers…not to mention the jaw-dropping beauty of its surroundings. For starters, here is a look back on last year’s shenanigans…
We’ll get into the music side of things soon enough, but firstly,
here are our other recommendations for this year’s event…
Join The Druids – Gather round Fortune Falls on Friday morning, for the traditional opening of the festival. The Druids are welcomed to open the event by making a special blessing on the land to grant the festival good tidings (and hopefully some good weather too!)
Support The Locals – The lovely organisers of Green Man take pride in their support for Welsh performers, and with more than 25 Welsh musical acts – including our favourite Georgia Ruth, along with wonderful installations of digital artist Sean Harris and the incredible National Theatre Wales and NoFit State Circus offering a specific cultural experience that you won’t get anywhere else…you can’t go wrong supporting the locals at Green Man 2014!
Have A Drink – The Courtyard area is home to the now legendary annual Green Man Beer and Cider Festival, offering a mind-blowing 99 different ales, ciders, and perries from independent microbrewers and producers – including the festival’s signature beer, Green Man Growler! So make sure you grab yourselves a pint or three.
Give Generously – Green Man Festival champion some excellent charities and through the Green Man Trust, they provide support to regional projects and organisations that promote art and culture, with a special emphasis on emerging talent, as well as community initiatives. So make sure you swing by the Green Man Trust Cafe to give what you can
See Him Burn – On the Sunday night, following what will be an incredible closing set from Neutral Milk Hotel, join the crowds to watch the ultimate finale of the festival – the burning of The Green Man!
There are so many other activities taking place across the site during the weekend which we’d love to cover, but if we did, this would be more of an essay than a preview! So all we can suggest is having a good look at www.greenman.net for further recommendations, before immersing yourself into the event upon arrival, having a wander and seeing where your feet take you!
Now…for some music!
We’ve looked at just a few of the many great things to do while at Green Man Festival,
