Thank Folk For New Bands

We’re a little late with this month’s Thank Folk For New Bands! feature…

but we’re glad to say it’s finally here…huzzah!

As explained last month in our very first New Bands post, we here at TFFT are often contacted by up and coming bands and singers who are desperate to have their name put out there. However, it is often the case that we simply can’t post about them all…So, we have put together this new feature for the end of each calendar month (apart from this month…oops!), to publicise who we believe to be exceptional talents and deserve to have their music heard by the masses…so let us begin!

First up…

Daniel Pearson is a Leeds-based singer-songwriter who creates timeless acoustic folk, under the influence of Bruce Springsteen, Bright Eyes and Elliot Smith. His debut album Satellites is available digitally now (via danielpearson.net/store) and physically from January 2012. With a little more strength in his voice and some worked-on lyrics, Pearson could be destined for big things….

The K.C’s are what New Bands is all about. A young duo that met on holiday, had a few jams together, and realised that the music they were making was pretty top notch! Jake Chandler and Gaby Kettle combine beautifully plucked acoustics with gorgeous vocals, not too dissimilar to the extraordinary talent that is Laura Marling. Listen to one of their stunning demos, by clicking HERE

Calaca Strides is one of those artists who likes to keep themselves to themselves, (hence no band photo!), but still manages to dish out some rather splendid music. Though a real name has still not been linked with Calaca Strides, we are aware that it is a solo gent from the North West, who creates a blend of lo-fi, spooky folk, that’s difficult to shake off.  Click HERE to listen to new track Daughter Moon, taken from the recently-released EP Quiet Haunt

Now we’re probably cheating a little bit here, because Rae Morris isn’t exactly new. In fact, she’s played BBC Introducing, been snapped up by Communion, and has her biggest UK tour to date set for the new year. However, we’re not sure everyone knows who she is, so until everyone does, we’ll keep our campaign going! Rae is a Blackpool-based pianist, not even in her twenties yet, but creating raw, heart-tugging, gorgeous sounds with both her vocal-chords and key-plonking fingers. Head HERE to her Facebook, to check out her music, tour dates, bio, etc, etc…just go!

And finally…this merry chap above is Martin Rivas. He contacted us recently to innocently ask if he could be featured in our New Bands feature, blissfully unaware that we’ve been fans for ages and he really isn’t ‘new’ to us! But, for the sake of everyone else…let us introduce you to Martin Rivas! This absolute gem is from NYC and has been long been a server of superb sounds. In addition, back in September he gathered together a host of sensational artists, to make a record that raised money for the victims of Hurricane Irene. You can still download this superb collection from aftertheflood.bandcamp.com, and visit Martin’s website by clicking HERE
