New Release: Homage To Woody Guthrie

On July 14th 1912, a rather important chap was born under the name Woodrow Wilson Guthrie. Later known more simply as Woody, he was to become one of, if not the most important folk artist of the 20th Century

This year celebrates Woody Guthrie’s 100th birthday, and along with many other global projects taking place, the four fella’s you see above you are planning to make their mark.

Jay Farrar (Son Volt), Will Johnson (Monsters Of Folk), Anders Parker (Gob Iron) and Yim Yames (My Morning Jacket), have come together to create a new album based on the unrecorded lyrics of Woody Guthrie, as part of the Woody at 100 celebrations. The album is called New Multitudes and will be released in the UK on February 27th

In addition, three of the group (Farrar, Johnson and Parker), will be playing an exclusive show at the wonderful Celtic Collections in Glasgow, on January 25th. Here they will be joined by Woody’s granddaughter Sarah Lee Guthrie, to celebrate and pay homage to the legendary folk figure.
